Securly Home – Parental Control & Reporting

June 1, 2022 | Posted in Communications, Technology

Parents & Guardians,

The Wilmington Area School District is excited to announce a new tool to give YOU control and reporting over your student’s Chromebook at home! “Digital Parenting, Simplified” – that is the phrase that our web filtering company “Securly” chose to describe the benefits of their robust parental control and reporting platform “Securly Home,” a one-stop shop for controlling and reporting on your student’s district-owned device.

Ready to sign up? You can do so here: https://forms.gle/9WWY3jHjRLKv…

Looking for more information? It can be found on Securly’s website here: https://www.securly.com/home-p…

A few things to note:

  1. The district does not monitor social media activity, but instead blocks social media networks on school issued devices
  2. Parental web filter rules set using the app only apply when students are not in the school building
  3. Parents are only able to make the web filter more restrictive at home, not more permissive. As an example, gambling sites will always be blocked at school and at home, regardless of your choices in the app. You can, however, block access to a category of sites, i.e. the Health category, if you wish.

At this time, this system only applies to grades of students with Chromebooks. We will continue to explore ways to work with Apple to make this happen for lower grade levels.
