News Regarding Confirmed COVID-19 Cases:

Date Details
November 25th, 2020At this time, based upon COVID 19 transmissions within Lawrence County, it is the recommendation of the DOH and DOE that the School District continues with a full remote learning model. As a result, the Wilmington Area School District grades K-12 will continue full virtual instruction through Friday, December 4, 2020. The District will continue to monitor the information disseminated by the DOH and DOE and will notify families as soon as possible for the week following.

November 13th, 2020Message from the Superintendent to WASD Community:

I am alerting all of you that two of our students have tested positive for COVID-19. At this time, the District believes that students and staff were not directly exposed to the individuals while symptomatic. The students initiated self-quarantine prior to the diagnosis. The PA Dept. of Health will contact anyone who may have been exposed.

November 11th, 2020Message from the Superintendent to WASD Community:

I am alerting all of you that one of our students has tested positive for COVID-19. At this time, the District believes that students and staff were not directly exposed to the individual while symptomatic. The student initiated self-quarantine prior to the diagnosis. The PA Dept. of Health will contact anyone who may have been exposed.

November 9th, 2020For the week ending Friday, November 6, 2020, Lawrence County was at a substantial level of community transmission of the COVID virus.. This is the 3rd consecutive week at a substantial level. As a result, the Wilmington Area School District will continue Virtual learning for all students through Friday, November 20, 2020.


October 30th, 2020 The PA Dept. of Health (DOH), in coordination with the Dept. of Ed. (DOE), has issued a recommendation to all schools in Lawrence County with respect to each schools’ instruction model instituted during the COVID-19 pandemic. The recommendation relies on two standard public health metrics: incidence rate and the percent positivity of diagnostic testing. At this time, based upon increased transmissions within the County it is the recommendation of the DOH and DOE that the County Schools proceed with a full remote learning model. As a result, the Wilmington Area School District grades K-12 will begin full virtual instruction Wednesday, November 4, 2020, and continue through Friday, November 13, 2020. The District will continue to monitor the information disseminated by the DOH and DOE and will notify families as soon as possible for the week of November 16, 2020.

October 30th, 2020 Message from the Superintendent to WASD Community:

I am alerting all of you that two District staff members have tested positive for COVID-19. Fortunately, the staff members were aware of possible exposure and initiated self-quarantine in advance of the diagnosis. The staff members will continue to follow all necessary health protocols as required by the District and the Department of Health. The PA Dept. of Health will contact anyone who may have been exposed for a length of time to be considered a contact. Deep cleaning of any and all areas will continue. 

October 21st, 2020 Message from the Superintendent to WASD Community:

I am alerting all of you that a District staff member has tested positive for COVID-19. Fortunately, the staff member was aware of possible exposure and initiated self-quarantine in advance of the diagnosis. The staff member will continue to follow all necessary health protocols as required by the District and the Department of Health. The PA Dept. of Health will contact anyone who may have been exposed for a length of time to be considered a contact. Deep cleaning of any and all areas has been completed.

 I am alerting all of you that a District staff member has tested positive for COVID-19. Fortunately, the staff member was aware of possible exposure and initiated self-quarantine in advance of the diagnosis. The staff member will continue to follow all necessary health protocols as required by the District and the Department of Health. At this time, the District believes that students and staff were not directly exposed to the individual while symptomatic. The PA Dept. of Health will contact anyone who may have been exposed.

How Will The District Communicate Confirmed Cases?

The District has several methods of communication and will determine which of those methods on a case-by-case basis dependent on severity.    

Our most commonly used methods of communication are:

  • Facebook (via the District's Official Facebook Page) -  All confirmed COVID cases will be reported here. 
  • Website (on the front page - live feed section) - All confirmed COVID cases will be reported here. 
  • Mass Email (via Alma to a registered parent/guardian emails) - All confirmed COVID cases will be emailed en masse via Alma.
  • Mass Phone Dialing/Texting (aka:  All-Call) - COVID cases with high risk of contact to other students or staff while contagious.  

Also know that the District cooperates fully with the PA Department of Health in reporting cases and conducting contact tracing.   The Dept. of Health will assist the District in contacting individuals who may have come in contact with an confirmed COVID carrier.
