District Urges Caution Against Large Student Gatherings
Special Message from the Superintendent

October 1st, 2020

As Superintendent of Schools, I have learned that members of the Greyhound Community are organizing large student events in the absence of perennially scheduled school events.  Unfortunately, the District cannot endorse the organization of these events, particularly under the reimposed crowd restriction guidelines.  Large gatherings are deemed to pose a risk of COVID-19 transmission and should not take place at this time.  If the metrics change, large gatherings can take place, but right now, our state and local leadership are prohibiting such activity.  I am, therefore, asking the Greyhound Community to refrain from promoting large events and creating a large gathering of students.  Events such as dances, parties, or bonfires potentially compromise the health and safety of our students, staff, and community.  Should these events take place, and any of our students are unnecessarily exposed to COVID-19, the District may be left with no other option than to suspend all in-person schooling and extracurricular activities for 14 days following the event.  Please help our students and staff be safe and continue their educational and extracurricular activities.  Thank you for your attention and cooperation in this matter.

Thank You,

Jeffrey Matty
