COPPA

At Wilmington Area School District, we strive to provide the highest level of education to every student so that they will excel in the 21st century.

To acheive this goal, Wilmington Area School District utilizes several third party technology services including, but not limited to, Google Apps for Education and Microsoft Office 365. In order for students to use these services, certain personal identifying information is provided to the third party, The information provided includes the student’s name and school provided email address. We do not share any other information.

Under federal law entitled the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), these third party service providers must provide parental notification and obtain parental consent before collecting personal information from children under the age of 13. The law permits school districts, such as ours, to consent to the collection of personal information on behalf of all of its students, thereby eliminating the need for individual parental consent given directly to the web site operator. Parents of WASD students under the age of 13 may opt out of such third party services.

Wilmington Area School Disitrict strives to provide your child a relevant education with integrated technology and 21st Century Learning Skills. Requesting removal from third party services such as those provided by Google will prove problematic particularly for any classes utilizing Chromebooks or Google Classroom.

Parents/Guardians who wish to opt-out should contact their student’s Principal.
